瞻。忘歸

When I found out that the theme of this time was Shaker, I spent a lot of time learning about the characteristics of this architectural style, because it is uncommon in Taiwan.

(Thanks to Mai-Britt for introducing me to this interesting and spiritual Shaker style)

After doing some research, I accidentally saw a wooden dollhouse on my worktable and decided to use it as the inspiration for this project and make this 3D quilt.

「昏旦變氣候,林間含斜暉。夕暮能娛人,遊子瞻忘歸。」

In general, it means that the beautiful and ever-changing evening sunlight makes the children who are out playing forget the time to go home.

This is the conception I want to express and aspire to through this work.

(Isn't it very much like the life style of the Shakers?)

  1. What a delight Momoko and thank you for the detail photos. A house like this would make me want to go home!
You have incorporated your 3D house into the quilt wonderfully.

  2. What a beautiful concept, Momo. That was an inspirational moment choosing to use the dolls House and creating a 3D piece. All the details are delightful. I can remember being happily and blissfully unaware of the time and my mother having to call us home.
Love the pieced and painted sky, the background trees, and the little girl - everything. Great choice of tree fabric. Hilary

  5. A lovely composition and I love all the detail - from the girl's hair and the dog with her hat to the wallpaper in the house and the miniature sewing machine and ironing board! The sky is beautiful and the fence a nice feature to close it in.

  7. You must have had a lot of fun making this Momoko! The simplicity of the dollhouse at the start really echoed the minimalist nature of Shaker architecture. You've inspired me to be braver and try 3D in my work!

  8. What a lovely and interesting piece. There's not much I can add to the other comments, except to agree with them all. The painted trees are inspiring, and the fence reminds me of New England where so many of the Shaker communities were based.

  9. Thank you Momoko, so unusual and refreshing. It certainly tells a story! Very clever to use a simple, little wooden house as your inspiration. And all the miniature objects in the house too! Well done.

  12. I think it's a first with a 3D quilt in this group - at least while I have been a member. Well done Momo, hours of fun, very innovative and lovely. I'm glad you enjoyed learning about the Shakers, their design and lifestyle.
