Library in Alexandria ,Egypt

The Library in Alexandria is the most ancient library that we know of . It contained valuable scrolls of the ancient world which were lost when Julius Caesar burnt it down during his campaign in Egypt. It was only rebuilt in the 20th century and has a back wall which ,on the exterior has images of ancient heiroglyphics .The woman depicted comes from a frieze on the wall of Tutankhamen's tomb.

  1. Gosh I certainly missed the Egyptian Library. Lovely, colourful piece. All that hand stitching on the dress works perfectly.

  3. Love the use of colour on the brickwork which brings it to life. Very clever adding the figure as well which certainly adds interest to your piece. You have certainly brought the outer building to life. A lovely piece of work and your colours are great.

  4. I looked at this library but couldn't move beyond the patchwork pattern on the roof. I think I prefer your version of the wall to the original!

  5. So odd, I can only see the picture by scrolling down as it doesn't appear in my list of posts during November. The colours really stand out on this, and I love all the stitching. Great idea to use such an early library.

  6. I very nearly chose the iconic library in Alexandria. I went there years ago, when every other library I had ever seen was the size of a small semi detached house - it blew my mind! I love your piece. It reminded me of my visit.

  7. Love your choice of library and the end result. I imagine you would have enjoyed finding out the significance of the heiroglyphics. Have you visited that library?
