Graffiti

I certainly admire what Shamsia is doing and I also admire her courage in trying to put her art out there.  One thing that caught my attention is that she uses photographs and draws on them.

So I have tried to take my love of photography, and my hesitant Photo shop skills and come up with lettering on one of my photos.  This view of the end of a glacier was taken a few years ago when we went on a Northwest Passage trip.

I hummed and hawed about how much quilting to do.  So I didn't do much.  Skies are always a problem for me, and I didn't want to mess with the picture.  If you think I should have done more, please don't hesitate to say so.

  1. Having started commenting from the top down, my comments here are very similar to Helena. Simple with a personal interest. Possibly I would add a few simple quilting lines at the top, but how and what not sure.

  2. Dramatic pictures are a great way to get a message across. And, no, you didn't need to put any more quilting on it. Sometimes you have to be brave, trust your instincts and stop - not go with the baggage we brought from our patchwork and quilting backgrounds of 'it has to be quilted all over'. Nice one. Hilary

  3. A very striking image both as a photograph and within the fabric frame that you have created.
I like the quilting , as is.

  4. It is very beautiful Dianne. I found it very hard to read the lettering. Is it my computer, or is that your intention? The colour is just sensational.

  5. Well done for stepping out with your own message on global warming. Very effective using photography as the basis of your piece . I love this technique though have never tried it . I agree with Hilary - no more quilting is required.

  6. I like that you took a different tack and were inspired by one of her techniques rather than just her imagery. For me that is probably harder to do.
I agree that the text is difficult to read on screen, is it the same on the quilt in real life, and is that part of the narrative?

  7. I think it is a really good example of lateral thinking and so well done on your piece. I love the colour and I think everyone has said it all. Altogether a great piece of work.

  8. Love your photo and your interpretation of the glacier. I also found the lettering difficult to read at first but now I see what you wrote. At first I thought they were 'prayer flags', and they actually are! Well done Dianne.

  9. I don't think it needs more quilting either.
