At first I got caught up in her cause and the politics and the result was insincere and trite. It wasn't until the last minute that I woke up to taking elements of her work and this is the result.

The inspiration was drawn from these pictures.
Applique, and paint (Jacquard Lumiere). Perhaps if I hadn't been working against the clock I might have positioned the scrolls better...

The simplicity of the design is very striking and I love the suttleness of the city line in the background.I am happy with your ribbon position.
ReplyDeleteI like this, a simple combination of the motifs Hassani uses. Phil's comment serves as a good reminder to review these pieces in full screen - I'd missed the city line at first glance.
ReplyDeleteHilary, I see this as a perfect illustration of what we are attempting to do. Take the artist's work and draw inspiration from its essence without necessarily copying. Love it. I too would have missed the cityscape so thanks Phil!
ReplyDeleteI loved the way Hassani expressed her idea of freedom with music with the piano keyboard . This quilt of yours has a very peaceful feeling about it and that touch of blue with the "writing"is the perfect contrast .
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have taken some of Hassani's recurring motifs and combined them in such a simple yet striking composition. The blue filagree is so delicately done, it gives a real air of lightness to the quilt. Claire
ReplyDeleteA beautiful piece Hilary in its simplicity with the piano keys and as Claire said the blue filagree which is so delicately done. I agree with everyone's comments.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely Hilary. I really like how you have taken the ideas and made an abstract out of them. It's beautifully executed too.
ReplyDeleteOn first viewing I didn't notice the city skyline - I'm glad you commented on it Phil, asI really like it. I like the simplicity of your design Hilary.
