Red Delight

Not long after the colour was announced I was putting together a Christmas cushion cover for my guild which included a large red felt poinsettia flower in the middle of the cushion.  I had lots of bits of felt over, found the background fabric and promptly put this little number together.

Afterwards I thought, what a cop out. Seeing I had plenty of time still to go I carried on looking for some inspiration which I am afraid did not happen hence this is it.  A sweet little red and black number!

  1. Not a cop out at all, it's lovely. The flowers contrast beautifully with the background, and I think the small red dots of colour hold the whole thing together.

  2. I love the black and red contrast - takes the piece away from the usual Christmas connotations of Poinsettias very nicely. Red dots are a nice detail. There's a good mix of spikes and curves. Definitely not a cop out.

  3. I think it's charming, Phil. I like the dimensionality you have achieved with the flowers, and the background design is a bold contrast.

  4. It is a sweet piece - and very nicely done. The leaves and quilting help balance the strength of the flowers.

  7. great quilting. you have integrated the 3D flowers with the rest of the piece which is small in size and almost monochromatic, very successfully.

  9. Even though we have chatted about your piece having studied it again I love it - your flowers contrast beautifully with the background and it is a really charming piece. Aren't these 3D felt flowers fun to do. Makes me want to do more with this technique.
