SUN FISH

SUN FISH

I did enjoy this artist's work and had a lot of fun with my interpretation, also the colours are ones I do enjoy.  I used quite a lot of metallic thread and gold cord and appliqued the design onto the black background.  I thought the fish would be the easy part but after trying out four pieces of fabric I finally hit on the one I liked best, which I think worked well.  The whole piece was a lot of trial and error and I finally realised that I could not use too many colours (I had originally started out with blue waves in the bottom right) and halfway through I took those out, replaced them, and used colours that blended rather than stood out.  All in all I am happy with my piece.   I scanned the top three images which I got my inspiration from and I apologise for the poor quality, but my printer didn't want to give me anything better.

  1. It worked very well indeed! Trial and error is all part of the game, that's where we learn. Love this piece, glad you took out the blue!

  3. Wow! love it! It is inspired by yet very much your own. The circular fish jumping out of the circle into the red waves... gorgeous.

  4. I too like the fish fabric and it definitely didn't need the blue.

  5. I love this Patricia - I like your fish, the repetition of circles and the colours you've chosen. I could see all this on a strong blue background! just stirrin' the pot!!

  6. Patricia, your piece is just fantastic. I am so inspired by your interpretation. The colours you have chosen are so striking. I also love how you have taken the various motifs and subtly changed them to make a really strong composition. I completely agree with your choice of colour for the waves, blue is not what was required here!

  8. Very striking piece Patricia; if fact very modern-looking, I think. Enjoy your time in New Zealand and we will definitely link-up when next we travel up to Johannesburg. We are on our way to Nelspruit next week and then down to Cape Town in the new year.
