This artist is different from the others which we have so far had, in that his body of work incorporated tapestries . I found these particularly intriguing and fascinating and couldn't decide which to do . In the end I did 2 interpretations but the first one shown will be the 'official' posting. Thanks Jinnie for selecting this artist for the series . I did enjoy looking at his art and especially enjoyed the making of my interpretations . Both included 'stand out' pieces (the flowers in the first piece and the wing feathers in the other . )This is a technique I learned years ago from Australian quilt artist ,Gloria Loughman, and I have used it in many quilts since. Firstly, thank you for posting both. A little bird told me you had done 2. Wow, now i am pleased you have indicated your choice as i love them both. Your workmanship & wonderful use of colour/fabrics not to mention your quilting. Both so different, both beautiful.

ReplyDeleteWow to both, you have outdone the artist himself in my book. I took a course with Gloria years ago at FOQ, I cann't have been a good student, I can't remember what I was taught - but I do remember her wonderful quilts.

I like the vibrant colours that you have used - and from looking at pictures of Lurcat's tapestries, I think that his vibrant colours as well as whimsical designs are what appeals to me. And you have captured both in both of these. Plus they are so well executed.

ReplyDeleteI love how you have taken his motifs and used them in a way that honours traditional patchwork techniques. He would be pleased as he seems to have been quite a purist! My fav is the first one too, but thry are both fabulous.
