Ex-centric

There is a little bit of cheating with this piece.  It is an encore to a piece that has not been made and is   still an idea in my head!  I did a course with Rayna Gilman and we sewed lots of little pieces together in her style.  I then framed it in purple and after looking at it for a few years decided to quilt it up.  That was when I had my aha moment and so I cut the piece into 16 squares, then cut out the largest circle I could manage.  The circles, will of course, be the main event - on a white background with somewhat similar quilting.  This was a fun exercise.  Thanks Michele.

  1. Modern Quilting at its best. Very striking.

  2. I LOVE the simplicity. That was some eureka moment. The way the greens overlap in the middle is powerful.

Do me a favour and turn it 90 degrees anti clockwise and see what you think?

  5. I really like the quilting design too, and now I'm excited to see those circles in the Main Event. What a good idea! I think Rayna would approve wholeheartedly.

  6. What an interesting way to create a very modern, bold piece from something very different. Love it.

  7. At Heather's suggestion I fixed the colour a bit on the photo. It really is just pure white as a background. Looks a little brighter now.

  9. You really were thinking "out of the box" when you cut the circles in the middle of a pieced block and then putting it onto a white background. WOW! The first Quilt Convention for Modern Quilters was held in Austin, TX last week. Your piece would definitely catch the eye of the judges!

  10. I can see Rayna's style but I also see a very individual interpretation. Very crisp and very clever.

  11. Quite an experience if you let your eyes focus alternatively on the white then the black then the white again. The white begin to look like searchlights in the night, then again not then again yes.
    Very effective. Well done
