Japanese Dolls

 Japanese Doll Exhibition

Until 30th May, Estuary Arts Gallery in Orewa, Auckland is hosting this Japanese Doll exhibition. The dolls are exquisite, beautifully made and dressed in traditional clothing. Each has an explanation of its meaning next to it. I believe the Japanese Foundation are promoting it world wide and so if it emerges in your area do take the time to visit it. You will not be disappointed. Here are a few examples.  Rosemary

  1. My university had japanese students who were there for two years to learn English. Every year we were invited by our Japanese friends to their Hina Matsuri (Girl's day) celebrations that are held every year in March. The dolls that were on display, which represent the Japanese court, were beautiful.

  2. We were in Japan a few years ago in April and were there at the height of the cherry blossom season and just after the celebration of girl's day. We were on a bicycle tour and visited a few old samurai houses on route and they had displays of the dolls. It was quite something to see so many of them.
