And our next artist is...

Pier Neef

I'm glad I waited until after the first reveal to make my decision of an artist because I wanted to see the kind of results that came in.  Klee used a wide variety of styles and techniques over his life time but many were abstract/abstracted.

I wanted to introduce you to an artist most of you may not have come across and have chosen a very different painter - his style is pictorial, South African and distinctive.   I hope this provides enough of a challenge to inspire you all.  Good luck.  Reveal date:  31st August.

  1. Exciting, scary and totally new to me ... And landscapes, even scarier. But there's nothing like a good challenge to get the cogs whirring, excellent choice Hilary.

  2. Dianne has pointed out that his name is actually Pierneef (Jacobus Hendrik) but I think google will have recognised my mistake and led you to his paintings.

This link should take you to a lot of his work: http://tinyurl.com/hldaqln

I am sure that with all our diverse styles we will all come up trumps and meet the challenge.

  3. I have just clicked onto our blog and seen our next artist Hilary. WOW my very favourite South African artist, I just absolutely love his work and in fact have two large prints on my living room wall, so I get to enjoy his work every day. Looked at Google images and found some I had never seen before. I can't wait to get my creative wheels turning. This is such a great challenge. Thank you.

  4. I googled him last night, and love your selection. His trees are magnificent, and I love the idea of doing a landscape. I'm also pleased it's Africa - Mick, I and our elder daughter have just booked a holiday for next February - flying into Johannesburg then doing a safari in Kalaghadi, then hopefully flying down to Cape Town for a few days before home - so I've been thinking a lot about South Africa recently

    1. I am so jealous - do you need a bag handler? We also lived in Botswana (where the Kgalagadi Salt Pans and Nature Reserve is) for two years. You are going to have such a wonderful trip. Cape Town is the jewel in the crown of South Africa. The city and the surrounding countryside are so beautiful and there is so much to see. Can you extend the Cape Town part? A few days is not enough. H

  5. Hmmm, more of a challenge that's for sure.

  6. I haven't heard of Pierneef before. It's good to discover a new artist. I think I'm going to find this quite difficult, but then that is part of the challenge. I learnt a lot with the Klee painting and no doubt I will this time. It'll stretch my artistic wings.
