The bridge of friendship

I used a metaphorical approach to create the theme of this piece - bridges.

The gesture of shaking hands is often used for making friends and exchanging greetings, so I used "the bridge of friendship" as the source of inspiration for this piece.

The influence of covid now avoids physical contact. The simple handshake has become rare in the past. Therefore, I designed this work as an interactive.

There are two pockets on the back that are not interchangeable. When you put your hand in it, it looks like you are shaking hands with the person next to you.

Very interesting and meaningful piece !

  1. Very, very clever thought process behind it. The interactive part is so now. How we wished we could just touch somebody with a hug, shake hands or just a gentle touch on the shoulder.

  2. I agree with Phil this is a very cleverly thought out way to make a metaphorical bridge. We can all relate to the Covid pandemic all around the world and you have produced a very thoughtful and meaningful piece of work, and one we can all relate to.

  3. Wonderful! So simple but so clever and so 'of this time' when so much has gone online and face-to-face person encounters are becoming less common. This is having a detrimental affect on us where touch is so important and healing. Thank you for your piece. Hilary

  4. What a brilliant idea Momoko and such a lovely thought. It is very symbolic of our Covid times and I hope that you have many friends that "shake" hands with you using it.

  6. Love it! Such a good idea. It's interesting that you chose to have two pockets rather than one long. Not being able to touch even when your piece celebrates touch really reinforces the current barriers to physical contact.
