LOCKDOWN SOUTH AFRICA

Lockdown in South Africa starts at midnight tonight.  Our rules are very strict.  No walking or jogging (including the dog) at all.  Only one person per car (the driver) to go out and get food and medical requirements.  So, my first stop this week was not to clear the shelves of toilet rolls but to visit my Bernina store for....

Had to get my priorities right!
I have a number of community tops to quilt so I am having fun getting back to basics and free motion quilting.

I just have the outer blocks to finish and then bind. 4 more to go.  In between when I have down time I am crocheting a family of Ellies who will be sold for funds for my local guild.

These are my sassy Ellies who will be dressed in the fabric they are sitting on and I will give them a sling bag.

These  are my angelic Ellies who will have tutus made out of the tulle they are lying on and then I need wings.   Need to play around and see what will work.
And then of course my 10 minutes of Vitamin D is benefitting my garden as it is now getting a look in.
As somebody shared ...... Quilters have been preparing for this for a long time.
Stay safe all.

  1. Looks like you and Hilary are having fun. I have been mulling on my Art Deco piece but have been working on a Guild challenge as well. I am at a point in the challenge where it needs lots of free motion quilting and I am getting there but need a bit of a break, so have decided to start sketching my Art Deco architecture piece amongst other more mundane things one has to do around the house. Enjoy whatever you are doing anyway.

  2. Aaaagh! Those ellies are to die for. Hope they will be snatched up and all find good homes. Wings for the angelic ellies: how about two rectangles layered and gathered across the middle to 'fan out' like wings and attached on the back? Just a thought... If you think they need to be able to come off then how about two loops of elastic (shirring?) to hook around the arms?

    1. My issue is the fabric choice. They will be stitched on. I think easiest.

  3. I love your Ellies: I'd love to see one with his/her wings and tutu. We've been on lockdown here in France for a week: fortunately we can go out for a walk (no more than one hour and within a kilometre of home), though we have to have a signed and dated form in case we are stopped by police. I have been going out every morning for a stroll and have seen hardly anyone. We're fortunate to have a bit of greenery round the houses here. Thanks to covid 19, the noise from the motorway between Paris and Lyon, which passes about 200 metres behind our house, has been greatly reduced: far more effective than the noise barrier they erected a few years ago!

  4. What fun elephants are -just their general shape and their long trunks . Please show them to us with their wings and tutus on when you have finished . We are all so lucky to be able to create with fabric and thread (including wool) during a time when we are all in this lockdown situation.
I am having a great time with the NY Art Deco design . So much to choose from . It is hard to make decisions . Maybe with all this extra time available I will manage two!!

  5. I love your elephants and your quilt. Looks like you are making good use of your time! Me, not so much. We've been thrown into a bit of a turmoil as one of our daughters is expected home tomorrow and we have to decamp to the cottage while she quarantine's at the house. So I've been trying to stock up in both places so we don't need to buy food. And of course, taking projects to the cottage to keep me busy. I did get started quilting some of my backlog, but now that's on hold again.
But we are lucky we can do this and it's not a hardship - just a bit of organization!

  6. Definitely want to see them when you have finished putting on their wings and tutu's - brilliant idea! Still have to get going with my Art Deco piece.
