Derric van Rensburg appealed to me mainly because I enjoyed his use of certain colours . I also liked the way he portrayed the animals in his pieces , slightly hidden but again with similar colours in his backgrounds . Many of his pieces are landscapes so I ended up doing 2 pieces in the end ( as I often seem to do !!)
These are the pieces I interpreted :

Here are my interpretations :

With the eagles head I first painted the background and then thread painted over it . Then I appliqued the eagles head on . The darker areas on the feathers was done with Derwent Inktense Pencils but I have not added moisture to the intense because I liked it as it is .

  1. You put me to shame. All good intentions seem to disappear as I find myself running short of days and hours.
Both great pieces and quite different so not sure which I would put ahead of the other. The landscape probably takes the edge as the impact of colour draws you in.
Great that you were reimbursed your expenses. I feel a lot happier.

  2. Lovely pieces, but I'm definitely drawn to the landscape more than the eagle. I love the colours and the quilting on it.

  3. I like them both and am amazed you did two pieces, so well done on that.I like the landscape best I think as I love the way you have used your colours but the eagle is also really good and as always your quilting takes first prize. Well done on doing two pieces both so different from each other.

  4. Well done with your two interpretations! Your quilting is beautiful! And the trees add just the right amount of interest to the landscape.

  5. I am so impressed with those of you who make two (or more) interpretations, and it's great to see how different yours are Rosemary. Very inspiring - well done.

  6. I too prefer the landscape, but I do like the eagle too (he looks fierce), especially the threadpainted background. I think you were right about leaving the inktense unwetted.

  7. You put us all to shame. I LOVE the landscape and would happily hang it in my house. The composition and workmanship is exquisite. Beautiful eagle head as well - fits in well with his work. Hilary

  8. Amazing Rosemary - doing 2 pieces and so different too! The landscape appeals to me more. I like the neat fields you have created - very precise. Beautifully executed, Rosemary.
