The numbers are wrong!

I'm really looking forward to this challenge, the larger size is a bit daunting but I'm hoping to discover some new artists through your choices!
Here's one I did earlier - unfortunately Van Gogh died in 1889 and the piece is only 6" x 4" but it was a great exercise in looking closely!

  1. Yes, I can see the influence/inspiration of van Gogh, Linda B. It would have been fine if he had painted after 1880, though.

I'm intrigued by the border - is that just several rows of straight stitching - it works! Must remember that.

  2. What a beautiful little piece, Linda. Is it inspired by The Starry Night, 1889? That would qualify it for the challenge, aside from the dimensions. I like the gradation of thread colour. Did you paint the circular shapes?

  3. I love your interpretation! What a great example to show us a way to look at a painting.

  4. Thanks Dianne, The Starry Night was in my head but it was actually it was The Cafe in Arles that sparked the inspiration. The base fabric was a piece of fortuitously dyed fabric with the circular shapes emphases with organzas and thread.
Hilary, by the time I'd finished the stitching I needed to bring the edges under control, hence the three rows, not sure how easy it would be to achieve consistency on a larger piece!
