Paul Klee at the Phillips Collection

Here I am in Washington DC at cherry blossom time. Today we walked more than 21 km. We visited the Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Phillips Collection, where I saw this example of Paul Klee. Not one of his most inspiring pieces, but what intrigued me is that it was done on burlap.

If I see other Klees during the next few days, I will share them here. Not a clue how I'm going to respond to our Klee challenge!

  1. Well, I saw five lovely Klee paintings at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and I am no further ahead! Unfortunately, photos were not allowed. Even more disappointing is that, as I understand it, paintings in the Barnes collection never travel.

  2. If you look at http://www.philamuseum.org/ and do a search in collections for Klee you will see a lot of pictures of his work. I'm not sure that they are all in the museum, but it's a useful source for us.
Heather, his Revolutions of Viadukts is reminiscent of your chairs that you did at the MMFA class

  4. I have just discovered that there is a major exhibition of Klee's work that has opened today at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, with works from the Zentrum Paul Klee in Berne. I already knew which painting I would use before the choice of the artist was announced, as I would have chosen Klee eventually myself, and have a good idea of what I am going to do, though I need to try out a few things first. I'm looking forward to the exhibition and maybe seeing the original painting if I'm Lucky.

  6. I went to our local town library today - and they don't have a single book on Klee!!!! I even had to spell out his name. But I did find this link online: http://tinyurl.com/zg2fl5g It has dozens of pages of images - yes, it is for buying prints but that's not a worry. You can even search by category (in the left hand column).
I have a couple of ideas but they need to marinade for a while. It would be so easy to copy any one of his works but that isn't the challenge.
Fortunately I have been working on the Contemporary Quilt 2016 Challenge (On the Edge) and have submitted two pieces. Now I'm working on a waterfall idea which has been niggling away in the back of my mind for a long time - time for action!
