MARSALA FLOWER POT

After playing around so much with the dyeing and thinking we had it as good as it could get the  moment you start joining it all together they start changing as they bounce off each other. Needless to say the pot and the right background were the two Hilary & I thought were as near as dammit.

On pondering what my piece was going to be I suddenly realised how much of the colour or  similar hues I have around my garden and they all have the lime green as well. I went with one of my terracotta / Marsala ?? pots I have around the garden.  The intention was to have the leaves hanging off the border but in my rush I quilted them down hence they have been chopped off.  I think I will go back and add possibly 3 'loose' leaves that will sort that out. I also realised afterwards I had cut the green shibori fabric on the left binding the wrong way. That is staying.

Here are a couple of the other 'things' I have around me in the garden along with, can you believe it, a ball of wool, almost in the correct colour, that was in my goodie bag from our Festival.

  1. I love this, though I agree the cut-off leaves on the right are a trifle odd. I particularly like your choice of colours, they all blend so well together, but still give great definition to the subject.

  2. Like your idea and it really worked well, and was different to what you usually do. I do miss the plants that grow so well in the sub-tropics, we don't get as much colour in our gardens up here in winter as you do. Great piece.

  3. I like the balance in your piece - the shibori fabric balances against the pot not being in the centre, and the colour balances the marsala.

  4. I don't mind the chopped-off leaves at all, Phil, and I love the way the green and the buff brighten up the Marsala. The split in the background works well too.

  5. I like the chopped off leaves for some asymmetry and also the fact that the stripes in the binding go the other way. It creates a frame. Well done!

  6. I don't mind the chopped off leaves on the right at all but I would have liked the leaf on the left not to have been chopped as well. You could even have moved the pot slightly further to the right. The shibori fabric is a stroke of inspiration and the fact that the stripes in the binding go in the opposite direction is a great framing trick. Good balance between vertical and horizontal lines in the piece.

  7. I think this is just right an nicely cropped. Fantastic colour and worth all the dyeing to achieve a great result.

  8. Yes, the pot and background are bang on. Is the pot painted or dyed? Nice piece.

  9. The shibori is a lovely fabric, and the border stripe going the other way looks just right, as do the cut off leaves. You must both have had fun doing the dyeing.
