Hudson Artists show

Here's a photo of me with some of the pieces I showed at the local art show. I was pleased to sell two pieces this weekend, and both of them were originally made as challenges for this group: "Street Life: Quebec City" and "Steps: the Plateau". I'm going to have to get busy and make more things for upcoming shows. Yikes!

Here's Michele, standing in front of the seven collages she showed this weekend. Her beautiful, framed piece of skaters in the moonlight, top centre on the board, sold to an artist friend.

I'm glad I joined the local art group. I think it has introduced some of the community, including artists, to fibre as an art medium. It has given me an outlet to show my work locally, and a few other opportunities have come from it. The guest speakers have been interesting, and have included several mixed media artists. Other members have been good sources of recommendations for local framers and suppliers, etc. I would recommend that art quilters consider joining their local art group for these reasons.

NYC on a sunny Sunday

Evidence of fine living seems to be everywhere. We walked the Highline park today and it was crowded with people all out enjoying the sunshine. The outdoor cafes are packed with people and life seems pretty good here. Central Park was packed with runners and a few people walking in the early morning. Now how to translate a good feeling into fabric!

Fine Living - sneak!

With the date around the corner I have finally got my piece plotted (albeit in my head) . The pic will be a give - away to some, but as to the finished piece that will keep you guessing.  In keeping with my 'African' theme I will be looking at one of our very identifiable tribes !!!!!!

Trust me .... this is not it, wrong shape.

Of Life and Dreams

Just finished with the helpful advice of my Text'art friends before returning to work for a while. Look forward to seeing all the fine new work in a few weeks.

Spring Dreamers Series

Spring Dreamers I The photos used for this piece are from the east end of Montreal in Parc LaFontaine , a large space with many ponds and large trees to wander through in the warmth of a spring afternoon.

This is a piece just finished in time to be in our local spring exhibit of the Hudson Artists. The scenes are shots taken in Old Montreal . We are still in the earliest stages of spring and the slightest hint of colour will bring everyone out to dream a little of the warm days ahead. Happy Easter to all of you.

Snow Steps

I really had trouble deciding on a steps piece.  I had so many pictures of all sorts of "steps".  I finally narrowed it down to the salmon steps that I did, but I had also started on this piece.  The centre is a photo that I had taken this past winter (oh it's so nice to say past), while I was out cross country skiing.  I printed it onto fabric and then placed it on a piece that I had dyed with indigo.  I'm quite pleased with how all the dye lines and photo lines complemented each other.  It's now glued down onto a stretched canvas that I painted.  And that's another wee accomplishment - getting the colour I wanted with only primaries and black and white to work with.
