The person to select the next artist, a big piece of news, and Uta's quilt in my possession

Drum roll please, the next person to select an artist is: VENETTA! So get your thinking cap on.
Hopefully everyone is nearly finished their Klimt pieces in preparation for the big reveal day next Thursday. Mine is finished! Has been for a while....

My big news is that I found out yesterday that Black Crow Blues
(75" x 55") has been selected for a very prestigious US show called Quilts=Art=Quilts at the Schweinforth Art Center in Auburn NY this fall. I am very very pleased.

And last, here is the piece by Uta called Tie a Yellow Ribbon, 2010, (12" x 12") that I bought on the SAQA annual auction in 2010.

This year's auction begins September 15 and the info is all here http://www.saqa.com/auction. My piece is in Section 1. It is always fun to check out the artwork and see how the bidding goes.

  1. Oh WOW! What a lot of good news, Helena. Lucky you Venetta - dying to see what challenge you set us.

Congrats on being selected to the QUILTS=ART=QUILTS show, Helena. That is a major feather in your cap. Love the interpretation of Black Crow Blues.

And who would have thought that having bought a quilt by Uta she would finish up part of our group - serendipity or pre-ordained?

Best of luck with your piece in the SAQA auction. It's another super piece Helena and I'm sure there will be rush for it.

  2. Congratulations, Helena, that is such wonderful news! Please tell us the techniques you used to achieve this amazing design!!

I am excited to announce on Friday, Sept. 1, my choice for artist...until then, I can't wait to see all of the Klimt inspired pieces coming from our group.

On a personal note, Houston and the greater Houston area is experiencing historical and catastrophic rain and flooding. Fortunately, at this date and time, John and I are safe and dry and still have electricity. Please pray for those in Houston and Texas who are experiencing devastating floods...heartbreaking!

  3. Fantastic news, Helena! Congratulations!
Glad to hear you are safe, Venetta. Very scary to experience such devastation. My mom is currently visiting me in Montreal to escape the smokey air in BC from all the forest fires.

  4. Great news, Helena. And good luck with your Lakeshore Artist's show coming up!

Venetta, the sights from Houston are awful - I can't imagine the heartbreak of the damage to all those homes, but so far, people seem to be mostly okay. I hope you continue to be fine.

  5. Venetta, the images of Houston and area are so devastating, it is hard to imagine what everyone there is going through. I hope you and John are still ok!

  6. This has become everyone's worst nightmare...we were able to rescue our daughter and her family and in-laws from a subdivision 20 minutes south of us as water was coming into their homes. Fortunately, there was a neighbor that had a boat to get them to an area where we could get them. They lived in a neighborhood that was engineered to be above any flood levels that were on record...now Houston has experienced devastation that has never been recorded. We are fortunate to be high and dry and to have them stay with us for as long as necessary...it will be a very long road to recovery for everybody in this area.

  7. Venetta I am thinking of you at this devastating time for you and everyone in the whole area who are being impacted by this disaster. So glad you are ok and were able to get your family to safety. Thank you for keeping us updated and so glad that you are ok at this time. Trust and pray that you will continue to be safe.
