Pierneefish

Pierneef's obsession of trees was a good starting point along with his subtle painted backgrounds. I painted a satin fabric using Aqua Bricks, love the result! A large tree I photographed while in Hawaii was my reference while thread painting this piece using a variety of 7 threads. I mounted this on a stretched canvas (a first for me).

  1. You must be pleased to be able to use the AquaBricks to such great effect, Colleen.

  3. I don't know what aquabricks are either - but the colours are very subtle!

  4. Captured beautifully. Well done. The Aqua Bricks sounds a bit like the Derwent Inktense blocks. If so I love them and will be perfect for the next Artist.

  5. I am assuming, like Phil, that the Aqua Blocks are like our Derwent Inktense blocks. Whatever. You have used them to perfection on that satin fabric. What a lovely foil to the stitched tree. Hilary

  6. What a great tree! It looks very textural. Did you just use poly or did you use something with it's own texture-particulary on the trunk?

Nice use of our bricks for the background. Our Text'Art group all bought a set and mine are languishing in the back of my cupboard.

  7. Amazing texture Colleen. I am lucky enough to have seen it in person and it absolutely shines. I love that you experiment with so many different techniques for our challenges. My Aquabricks remain untouched as well....

  8. I am an admirer of thread painting and think that you have created such an beautiful tree using this method . I was intrigued with your use of 'aqua blocks' in the sky which I haven't heard about . Is it a technique ?

  9. I like the subtle background and the thread painting and would love to be able to see it 'in person' as I expect it looks even better than on the computer.

  10. I really like working with thread painting and you have produced a really interesting piece using this technique. I am still a bit tentative using this medium therefore looking at your piece I need to be a bit braver than I have been in the past.
