Completed banners

I went down to our local church yesterday to see the completed Easter banners.  I handed over the dyed fabric (hemmed at both ends) and then various community groups decorated them.  The only exception was the banner just consisting of the 'I am' sayings which I did myself.  The results were better than I expected, and certainly make an impact on the church interior.

Sorry about the bad lighting on the photos!

  4. Wow Linda, the banners look amazing! And the church is beautiful too, love those stone walls. Is it very old?

  5. Very ambitious, Linda! Did you paint on your lettering or is it appliquéd? I particularly like the way yours turned out.

  6. Thanks for the comments! The church dates from the 13 th and 14th centuries, and you can find a Video on Yoututbe of the outside of the church that Mick made a couple of years ago. The banners are each 4 metres long, and I dyed some extra fabric green for the letters. They weren't dark enough, so I painted round the edge of each one with green acrylic paint, which also has the benefit of preventing the edges from fraying. They are attached using Steam-a-Seam Lite. On my banner I used a variety of hand dyed and commercial fabrics to make the letters.

  7. Very nice, glad you shared the pictures. Quite a talented group who worked rather quickly.

  8. They look magnificent and make such a wonderful visual impact. The modern with the old building work so well together I am so impressed, not only with the art work but with the message it gives out. I particularly like the second one of the four you put onto the blog.

  9. Sorry, Linda F, I am coming late to your posting. There are some wonderfully powerful banners there. You should be very pleased indeed with the project. Everyone seems to have put just that little bit extra effort and it has paid off in spades.
