White Challenge

White lilies in the garden in the spring remind me of the waxy sheen found on many flowers like lilly of the valley or white orchids. I have used a book of samples that included natural and grey linens, and for contrast, a white silk and an embroidered organza. White can often look blue so the orange was a tempting addition and silk always has an unexpected texture when using the embellisher. This piece could use a few simple lines of stitching.

  1. Fascinating collection of textures, Michele. Lucky you with the book of samples - they look very interesting. Am I right that you have embellished this piece? Do share another picture if you do decide to add some hand stitches.

  2. I can see how this piece is a variation on your current series of "aerial landscapes" in silk. Great textures, and the embroidered organza works well. Not sure where I would put a strong stitched line. Would have to try it out with an acetate overlay first.

  3. Luscious textures Michele. My eye goes right to the whitest white and the embroidered flowers. If you do any stitching it could refer to these flowers. Or not...

  5. Very effective use of the varied textures in your samples.
I'm not sure about the lines of stitching either, anything too linear might be a distraction though as Helena suggests something that references the flowers would work.

  6. It is a delicate piece - I like the way the ruffles in the white silk echo somehow the lines in the flowers and add movement.

  7. I also like the ruffles, not something we usually see. You really are having fun with the embellisher. A great piece for the artistic landscaper that you are.

  9. I agree with Pamela, I didn't recognise this as your work at first. I too like the way the embellisher has created the waviness in the white silk on the left. Perhaps a wavy, vertical, line of hand stitching here?? Lovely piece.

  10. Lovely, lovely textures and really like the ruffles at the side. It is a beautiful, ethereal piece of work and evokes an emotion of calm and gentleness.

  11. The textures work really well together and the embroidered orange flowers make the piece. I think it works well without any extra stitching.
