Sand = Lucy

As soon as I saw the challenge colour I knew I had to depict my beloved pug Lucy. Inspired by the incredible found-paper collages of Peter Clark, I attempted to convey her adorableness and loving personality, but I fell short of my aspirations. But no fear, I will try again. This piece is more "cute" than artistic, which is not what I was going for.

And here is the real thing, along with Chloe, my beloved golden/ Collie mix:

  1. What a good plan - your little dog is adorable and I can understand why you wanted to use him when the sand colour materialised. Lucy is so well depicted and it may be 'cute' rather than artistic, as you stated, but a really good piece and you have captured the essence of her personality. We have a new puppy in the house so know how they can become so special. Well done on depicting her so well.

  4. No knowing what you were hoping for, Helena, I wonder why you think it's a failure. I thought you had captured her personality. Difficult to create anything other than 'cute' when you are presented with such an adoring look. I'm sure Lucy is very pleased with her portrait.

  5. Who could not love that look and I agree that it would be very difficult to not have the word 'cute' used in a portrait like this no matter how you interpreted it.

  6. She's lovely Helena. You've captured her very nicely. And the background adds a slightly aristocratic/bohemian touch.

  8. Lovely. Lucy looks, and is, adorable. Particularly like the background stitching, the shades all balance the picture so well.

  9. There is little more that I can say! I too was struck by the effectiveness of your choice of background.
    Has Lucy given this her approval?
