There is something about the starkness and the paleness of the landscape that I really love in wintertime. Any colour really stands out. The photo below is from fields that we often drive by and they are delineated with trees that provide some wind break. In this area I liked the perspective of the horizontal lines of trees receding into the distance. However I didn't want to copy Elizabeth Brimlow's format, which I have always admired. So this is my little token.
And at this time of year with our unseasonably cold weather the idea of sand and sun is most appealing, but this is more the way it is here!
You have captured the mood and the weather so well - you can almost feel the chill and cold. The stark trees against the soft white of the snow captures the desolation of the scene so well. A good, simple design which is very descriptive of the season when the photo was taken.
ReplyDeleteThe subtly-dyed indigo base is just perfect for this piece. You really have made the most of your indigo-dyed yardage and will no doubt want to make more. There is certainly no shortage of snow scenes for inspiration around here!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr! That fabric is so perfect for your pieces. Thread painting the trees must have been so rewarding, they are 'spot on'.
ReplyDeleteAll the chill of that still winter scene. The bare trees are lovely silhouettes to play with. I hope you are chuffed with this piece as all the elements have come together really well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Heather .. you have worked into the subtle background cloth perfectly and truly captured the scene.
ReplyDeleteYour lovely trees look like they are on a bit of hillside which makes them even more interesting than in the photo. I really like their grouping and simplicity and how the branches have such warmth against the cool shadows in the snow.
ReplyDeleteLovely, and it brings back happy memories of walks in the snow. Winter feels a long way away at the moment, but your lovely piece conveys the cold and stillness perfectly.
ReplyDeleteLove your choice of fabric. The simplicity of this piece gives it a real winter chill.
ReplyDeleteNot much to add here except that this is a great piece Dianne!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can add much either, though I think the background fabric is perfect: it suggests the shadows really well.
ReplyDeletesand and snow - a juxtapostion
ReplyDeletei love it
your machine stitching and dyed fabric work so well together in this composition dianne
well done
