COBBLESTONES

I have spent a lot of time in the last three weeks looking  for grey in my surroundings and it has opened my eyes to a colour that I have never really considered before. I found myself looking at pavements and the cracks in between and finally decided to try and replicate the cobblestones outside the mairie. Another pavement  nearby had cushions of almost emerald green moss growing in the cracks and I put the cobblestones and moss together. I sponge  painted a light grey commercial fabric with various shades of grey for the cobbles, using trapunto to make them stand out a little bit more. The moss was made with velvet.

  1. I'm a sucker for grids, Jinnie, so I love your cobblestones. An auspicious debut piece!

  2. Well done Jinnie, I love the use of the velvet for the moss. And the non-symmetrical composition as well.

  3. Putting the grid at an angle was a great idea and green velvet moss - brilliant. What a debut. Funny how you can search and search and it is there right under your nose - or feet in this case.

  4. It's very textured just in the look of it. I like the effect you have achieved with sponging the cobblestones. And the green is perfect. It must have been hard to work with the velvet like that. It's going to be fun having you in the group!

    1. The velvet was a lot easier to sew down than I thought it would be: I just cut an irregular shape and used a large enough turning that it helped to stuff the cushion of moss. It took about 5 minutes to sew the smaller tufts down.

  6. I can't find anything new to add. Love the texture of the velvet moss, and I'd like to see the trapunto 'in the flesh'. So glad you have joined the group.

  7. I'm glad that you like it. When Hilary asked me to join the group, I said yes staight away, though as the deadline drew nearer ,I was beginning to panic and think that I'd bitten off more than I could chew! I' d like to say thank you again for asking me as it has been really good for me: I was in a state of paralysis and not able to get much done, but this challenge has got me out of the rut and I hope to keep up the momentum.

  8. A great piece Jinnie, I can almost feel those cobblestones under my feet. I too am an incomer to the group and well remember my sense of panic as the deadline came round. I think you'll fit in very well!

  9. My apologies for not replying sooner but have been unable to get anything 'creative' going let alone keeping up on the news on our blog due to what is called "life"! I loved your piece and you used such a simple subject you chose so welll and it was executed to perfection in every way - including the velvet. Welcome to our group and I am sure you are going to enjoy participating in all our challenges.

  10. Super introductory piece. I would like to see it in person to benefit from the trapunto which was a great idea.
