This is an easy to understand demo on how to mix more interesting kinds of greys starting by combining ultramarine and umber instead of black and white. Denise is a Dutch artist living in Montreal and I enjoy her art very much.

Cityscapes opens at Arbor Gallery
A sunny day brought about 25 visitors to the Meet the Artist event at my current show. The cityscapes showed well in the historic house, with its white walls and gallery lighting.
Thank you to Gabriel Landriault, Director of Communications for the Arbor Gallery, for these photos from yesterday's opening. And, to those who dropped in, thank you for your interest and your support.
Shanna Steals, curator of my show, poses with me for Felicia, reporter for the local newspaper, The Review. |
I'm looking forward to attending Michele Meredith's solo show in Rigaud later this summer. |
A chat with a staff member of the gallery who formerly worked in the New York neighbourhood of 57th and 5th. |
Having a word with Tim and Franki Elliott. Tim recently closed his successful solo show of fine paintings at the Skelly Gallery. |
The Montmartre cityscapes get their share of attention from Tim Elliott, Rosie Mayo, Betty Marok...
Cityscapes: Collages in Cloth and Stitch, runs until August 17 at the Arbor Gallery in Vankleek Hill, ON. Hours are Wednesdays, noon to 1 p.m., and Thursdays to Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

Updating the blog
I have been updating the blog - firstly a greyed background to give it a slightly fresher look. This could be more dramatic if everyone thinks that would be good.
And secondly I have reduced the number of pages by creating collections of all the Series One quilts and putting them altogether on one page.
What struck me while collating them was just how far we have all come since the first challenge - nearly 5 years ago!!!! The adage that the more you make the better you will become definitely holds true here. It has been fascinating to view all these quilts again.
Here's to the next five years.

Grey Teaser
I have just spent a weekend learning paper lamination with Christine Chester. We were mostly using Liquitex matt medium on sheer and solid fabrics but also had a go with white gesso. I didn't have a very good start as the iron we were using blew its thermostat and I melted my first sheer piece... The other problem is not knowing what to take to these workshops and although I go to learn a technique it does help to have a few things that are appropriate to achieve the idea behind the technique.
However, I have come home with a piece that is lending itself perfectly to our next challenge.
This was supposed to be me transferring an image onto solid fabric using a dry-brush style layer of medium. None of us achieved it really and we have all resolved to get a thermofax made so that we can 'guarantee' the effect whenever we want it!

50 Shades of Grey - spoiler alert!
I knew that I'd seen the quilt that Hilary referred to, it's here on our own Contemporary Quilt website, having been exhibited at Festival of Quilts last year
Hilary I'm pleased to say that the lovely Anne Armes has joined the NW CQ group.

Chrome, but not the colour
I'm still down in France, and have found that every time I tried to add a comment, using my Ipad, when logged in via Chrome my screen would flip to the iTunes shop page. I hope you couldn't hear the language I was using every time! So frustrating. I've at last found that if I go in direct from Google then I don't get the same problem. So now I can go and comment on all the lovely work on display without swearing.

UPDATE
Just a quick update on the wedding that took place down the road ...... no I did not attend as I was battling with a chest infection (do not think they would have appreciated that) and my son and daughter-in-law arrived for the weekend.
However , I did take a walk and captured the bride waiting on the road with her entourage. Not sure why and they did eventually make their way inside to a large tent on the property.
Disappointingly she was not in traditional dress but some of her family were. Whether the traditional part had taken place earlier and now she had changed I do not know. The groom was nowhere to be seen. For those of you who do not know, the 'clocks' in Africa work very differently when it comes to functions and celebrations. The two ladies, one behind the bride and one just out of the picture on the left, were her bridesmaids. Having said all that the bride looked very regal and pretty and her dress was lovely.

Blog and web updated
The Apricot page has been added to the side bar of the blog. The eagle-eyed of you will notice that some of the Series One pages have disappeared. Blogger only allows 10 pages (incl the Home page) so to keep up to date we have to loose some of the early ones.
The website has been updated - please check that all the facts, info and links are working.
Just waiting to hear what the next colour is, Colleen.
