Jubilate Deo

Well, here it is.  The idea was to create a sense of space and height by having imagery of vaulted church ceilings at the top, music floating upwards and the angelic choir boys at the bottom.

I am disappointed that the ceilings have come out so dark - that was unexpected as they seem to be much lighter on paper.  I guess that's where you learn about checking how much toner is in the photo first...
I may work on this piece and try and knock back the heaviness at the top.

  1. I like the transparencies very much, Hilary. I think the two boys on the lower left edge are very angelic, and could have even carried the whole piece if their faces had filled the whole frame, with the sheet music as an underlayer. A beautiful interpretation of the theme.

  2. I can hear them singing Hilary. You have conveyed a sense of the old church and the music soaring upwards.

  3. I definitely get a sense of pure song reverberating off of high cathedral ceilings! I love the actual music "Jubilate Deo" as background to support the theme. You are very brave to try a new technique and the share the travails of it all with us! So enlightening that the artistic process can have dead ends as well as triumphs!

  4. Thank you for sharing the outcome of the more dificult of the two transfer methods. Your results has revealed some very interesting colour and textural qualities that I may venture to use in the future. Sometimes I try a warm white wash of acrylic paint in areas that need to be resolved.I would definitely take some close ups of sections of this piece to use as a Christmas card as I find it has such a joyous spirit.

  5. The vaulted ceilings may be a little dark but for me the detail of the ceilings are missing so unless you zoom in you are not sure what they actually are. This may be a photo problem as sometimes you loose some of the detail against the actual. It is still delightful, well done! just realised you have created two halves to the piece .... intentional (even numbers as well?). You see what happens when we are not overwhelmed by lots of wonderful pieces to digest!!
