How I Spent my Christmas Vacation

I offered to make a cuddle quilt for my daughter and boyfriend, and had a great time making it with the help of my 2 girls. We set up a "sweatshop" and they cut strips and I sewed. They ironed and I quilted. Kathryn wanted it long and narrow for her huge couch, so it ended up being 128" x 75"! Fortunately it was a breeze to quilt on my new Handiquilter Sweet 16. Kathryn even made the binding which I applied by machine. The whole thing was finished in 2 days.

  1. What a brilliant way to spend time with your girls - and you have a special quilt to show for it at the end. Do you now have to make another for the other daughter? Oh, to have the advantage of a Handiquilter... Great way to use up small pieces of fabric as virtually anything goes within the colour scheme.

  2. You are absolutely right Hilary, now I have to make another for the other daughter. But the condition is that she has to come and help me make it!

  3. Oh sure - the fun part is having everyone muck in. I can just imagine the excitement of choosing fabrics and seeing it all happen so quickly. Does she have an idea of the colours?

    Lucky you,

  4. She wants just the same colours. As we were making the first one, she kept saying, this is just what I would have chosen.... Fortunately there is lots more in stock.... The "pattern" was an adaptation of the 1600 jellyroll quilt which we are making as an outreach quilt pattern in the guild. We used 4.5" strips instead of 2.5 and made it 2200 inches long instead of 1600. It came out massive...

  5. Will we get to see a photo of it in place, on the sofa? I think you could get a few people under there. What a great way to use up odds and ends and have some mom-and-daughter fun at the same time! Something to remember.

  6. What a great way to spend time with your daughters, and you get a permanent reminder! I've been spending some free time today making blocks for Andrea's mystery challenge, and thoroughly enjoying myself.

  7. That's what you call 'quality time' which is far and few between when the kids grow up - fantastic!
