Below is a variation using my cottage but maintaining the cloudy skies that were so dominant in his other paintings. It's the middle of summer here and so I tried ice dyeing with very poor effect. This piece was sitting at the bottom of the tray to pick up stray dye and was the best of the lot.

I like the feeling of the clouds extending into the ground, almost like a heavy mist descending. Very moody!

ReplyDeleteYou have really captured the storm clouds as depicted in your photograph. It certainly gives the effect of mist and clouds hovering over your piece.
ReplyDeleteTrust you to ice dye in the middle of the summer. It's hard to imagine your cottage surroundings looking so bleak. Your garden is so lush and full of colour.

ReplyDeleteGreat moody, cloudy sky just like your photo. And yes, the cottage is isolated as many of Pierneef's (and actual) farmsteads are in South Africa. Maybe the trees could have framed the cottage rather than dissecting it? It's certainly a very atmospheric image. Hilary
ReplyDeleteI realise why Pierneef was so fascinated with cloud patterns . I am glad you found this piece of iced dyed fabric at the bottom of the tray as it depicts clouds so beautifully . Sometimes the unexpected gives good impetus to our creativity as this fabric has done for you .
