GREEN PIECE !!

Apologies for the title ... stuck for one.

This came from a photo I had and I thoroughly enjoyed making it ... so much so it was finished about 6 weeks ago.   The background is one of my favourite techniques, painted applique paper cut into brick shapes and fused to a background cloth.  The leaves are own dyed fabric and fused to the background.  Quilting very simple.

  1. What is 'applique paper' Phil? I had to go to the enlarged image to prove the leaves were not 3D! Glorious green colour you achieved there for the leaves. Hilary

  2. I too went to the larger image, just to prove you hadn't just placed real leaves on top of your piece. Very realistic image, and I like the background too.

  3. Love your piece - I wanted to stretch out and touch the leaves they look so realistic. Your background is great and very, very effective and gives a great contrast and background to the leaves.

  4. Very subtle coloration, Phil, in the leaves and in the background. That foliage just pops out beautifully.

  5. I really appreciate your leaves after my attempts. They look so dimensional. I've recently seen some 'fabric paper' that looks like the brown craft paper. Is that what you used? Amazing result!

  7. The applique paper I use is a similar type to Bondaweb .... it has to be 'web-like' not film such as Steam a Seam etc. It takes paint with relative ease, acrylic is best and you can get amazing effects. I used this technique in two of my previous challenges; Fragments - the ground the miners were standing on and Jubilation - the sky behind the telescopes

  8. Absolutely amazingly realistic leaves that just jump out of the piece. Love it all.

  9. I think it's all been said - your use of the fabric for the leaves is stunning.

  10. Love the background. Love the leaves - realistic but artsy.

  11. I love the background a lot and am enjoying the leaves completely. I would have preferred not to have a border on this piece as I believe it speaks for itself without one.

  12. Wait...NOT 3D?!? The use of color and contrast made me think that I could pick the leaves right out of the bricks. I also had to go back and study the close up picture to realize that it is all on the same plane. I have to find this applique paper...the results are so effective!
