Wild Fire Devastation

Klee's use of black lines and the look of a hand-dyed fabric in 'Insula Dulcamara' was my inspiration. In May, Fort McMurray, Alberta was declared a 'state of emergency' after a wildfire destroyed their community. I have used hand painted fabric, bias tape and aqua bricks.
Good choice, Patricia as Paul Klee certainly has something to inspire everyone.

  1. what a great piece the way it so clearly references Klee but is so vastly different. It represents the emergency situation so well.

  2. I too like the way you have produced a piece of work that is so obviously influenced by Klee but addresses a current situation. Love the black trees.

  3. A response to our challenge and to a contemporary event: brilliant! Your flame-like stitching in the background is very effective, Colleen.

  4. I'd hoped someone would respond to the Fort McMurray devastation, the scale of which is incomprehensible here in the UK.
You have chosen just the right elements of Klee's work to speak of the impact of the fires.

  6. You have interpretated Klee's piece so well, using the lines in his work to such great effect and bringing it into the immediate situation. I would say that the Klee painting you used is one of the more difficult ones to interpret but you have used it to highlight the devastating situation that happened so well.

  7. Very, very clever. Brilliant. So much 'said' with so few lines. H

  9. The black lined paintings of Klees could have been my choice too . They are so interesting and expressive . You have managed to express the horror of this catastrophic fire with just a stitched background and a few black lines . Very well done .R
