Getting the right white ... Or not!

This challenge was really interesting - I thought that I knew my blue whites from my yellow whites but using those whites in combination with other colours is a completely different thing. It's something I knew about in theory but testing out fabrics proved to be a really good exercise. I thought that I'd succeeded but when I looked at the photograph of this piece I'm having second thoughts. I shouldn't have left the photography until the last minute, I'm dependent on the weather for my light and we are currently going through a particularly dull spell here!
I can't explain this piece, it just happened. My starting point was the idea of using two colour blocks, the white and the yellow, the rest just grew around those two pieces of fabric!

  1. I love the way you have taken the elements of the actual Lily White inspiration photo and turned them into this bold composition. Nice choice of edging too.

  2. Isn't it wonderful when a piece dictates itself and takes on a life of its own? Especially when it turns out so well. Everything seems right to me - love the three little red stripes counter balancing the strong curve.

  6. I'm going to try that edge stitching, great idea. I really like the strength of your colours. I sympathize with your photography challenge, sometimes it is so difficult to achieve the right colour.

  9. It always amazes me as to how a piece one is working on evolves and takes on a life of it's own and then you say to yourself, " Wow, I didn't see that coming!" I really love the composition and the strength of the design. I always second guess myself when trying out an abstract design, so well done on a great piece.
