Rif on Blue

This is not my first attempt, nor my first idea.  It always surprises me when I have an idea firmly planted in my brain that doesn't seem to want to work out in fabric!

This was influenced by listening to some jazz.  It's fairly simply "glued" down and quilted with my own dyed fabrics.  I was trying to work with the colour wheel, but I think I've gone beyond a bit.

  1. Simple but full of movement. I see the music! Very clever.

I know what you mean about firm ideas that just don't seem to work out in fabric - maybe their time isn't yet...

  2. I can see where you are coming from. I immediately think of those installations that are driven by music (e.g.musical water fountains) and almost want to put my ear to the screen to see if I can identify the music. Love the simplicity.

I think the second week or month after unveiling those that have should reveal their 'other' pieces that did not make it.

  3. I very much like this piece, it feels ordered and yet free at the some time. I see notes on a stave, with the music floating above them. I like Phil's suggestion of showing the pieces that didn't make it, though at the moment I'm still going with my first thoughts and keeping my fingers crossed that it has worked.

  4. Yes, I can definitely sense the musical inspiration behind this piece. Maybe the colour scheme qualifies as split complementary? I think the strong black line is important to the success of this composition.

  6. There is a great sense of movement, like the Olympic ribbon athletes. Love the colours against the grey background, which makes them pop.

  7. i just love the way you have balanced this one. may or may not be counter intuitive with the movement at the top and the negative space lower down. i turned it around and even in the other direction and the way you have it is perfect.
i love the way it come into being and the way you dealt with it
    well done

  9. Love the movement in those lines - it's not easy make irregular curves look right, but you've succeeded.
