Kingfishers are quite prolific around our part of the woods however our local resident is the Brownhooded Kingfisher. I chose the Malachite because it is one that has the most amount of 'blue'. It has photographed slightly darker than in real life.
I have to admit I left this one rather late and I am not one hundred percent happy with it. the idea was to have the look of a sketch lightly coloured in hence I have only stitched the blue and the white chin. the stippled background was a hasty decision based on lack of time. I might revisit in a few days and add some more (?) where needed.
What a beautiful bird, and so nicely portrayed in fabric. I think the background might have been better with simple horizontal lines of stitching, but I love the delicate feel of the branches that he is perched on.

ReplyDeleteIt has a sense of belonging in one of those old ornithology books that British ladies did on their travels abroad! Your embroidery is lovely, and the tree sets him up very nicely - it's not an overwhelming presence.

He is beautiful. I spend a lot of time birdwatching and would love to find him in my garden, but not much chance of that here in France!. The quilt is lovely and I like the simplicity of the design.
