Memories

Finished in the nick of time, about 6pm yesterday!  I wanted to use this idea of narrow stripes again, and black was the only possible choice.  My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer in early January, and died on the 6th February.  This piece was largely made the day before we went to his funeral, and when we got back early afternoon yesterday.  I realised after the piece was put together that the starry fabric really stands out, which is fine as my Dad was a star to me.

  2. Strange how sometimes a bit of pressure can galvanise us. Even sorrow can be a gift - and now you have something precious to remember your Dad by.

  3. Some years ago I made a piece while I was grieving the death of a friend, and it was a very powerful experience. I felt like I was putting all my emotion into the work, and when I look at it now the feelings rush back, though tempered by time. Maybe you will feel the same way about Memories.

  4. It's a powerful piece and masculine despite the bit of pink. It will be nice to have something that you will look at every now and then and always think of him when you do.

  5. When we are grieving, it can be very therapeutic to create something positive. This is what you have done and it speaks volumes.

  7. the lines are very masculine - the colors too for me say 'heart' and 'male.' a great piece . yes, therapeutic to do these kinds of things in happy and other times - a kind of grounding of one's feelings.
    go easy on yourself linda!

  9. My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this sad time and I think your piece will always remind you of your Dad - it is, as some of the others have said, a very masculine piece and your colours and the way you have put it together make it a really good, strong design. Well done.
