Morning Glories

Trying to find just the right hue of periwinkle for this project was challenging. While I was running one morning, I noticed a large blooming vine of Morning Glories draped over a fence...immediately, I knew that would be my focus...now to translate it to a textile piece. The background is composed of three different pieces of hand dyed cheesecloth that I "felted" onto black batting. Then I layered on the flowers, stems and purple fibers by more felting with my felting machine. The quilting is done with a wool thread for added dimensions and movement.

  2. These flowers are just dancing with energy! Venetta, I don't think I knew about your interest in felting until now. Great approach to the challenge.

    1. Thanks, Heather! My May 2013 piece, Perseverance, had felting in it and my December 2012 piece, Spiritual Journey, was totally felted. I seem to be gravitating to this...I really enjoy this technique.

  3. Love this piece. It just zings! My interest in felting has been renewed after seeing the exhibition from Australia and New Zealand at our last quilt show, Time to dust off the embellisher!

  5. I like the graduation in colour of the background, really sets the stems and flowers off.

  6. Really has that Van Gogh feeling and I love it. Great use of colour as well to add drama and to make the flowers pop.
