Companion Piece to "Steps: The Plateau"

I have taken another of my photos of steps in the Plateau to produce a companion piece to my Steps challenge. Here is the photo I started with:

and here is the 12" x 12" I have made from it:
Again, I used hand-dyed cotton and heavy black thread for the line drawing. Both are mounted on a gallery canvas, painted black, and will be shown at the upcoming Hudson Artists show. I have got into the bad habit of committing pieces-not-yet-made to the show, so it can be a bit of a scramble.

Weebly Website

Hi All,
I have just finished posting my new wesite at www.michelemeredith.weebly.com so for now this is the layout that I will start with. It was fun to use and fairly easy so I can change it as I go along . I only wanted to use work from the last two years so I will add galleries with links later. Thank you Hillary for posting it on the blog for me.

the quilt show

The Quilt Show by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims is offering all their shows for free this weekend in honour of International Quilt Day.  You can see the shows by going to www.thequiltshow.com and registering in.  It's really worth it - there are over 100 shows to watch.

New website!

Very excited! Have created a new webpage for myself, with a blog! Used weebly, and I found it very intuitive, a piece of cake. Wish I had done it a couple of years ago. I have kept the same domain name that I had before, www.heatherdubreuil.com. The only problem I had was that my web host was not familiar with re-directing my site and was a little balky, but we both persisted and now it's up and running! I'm so pleased that I will be able to update it without an intermediary.

Please check it out and let me know if you have any advice for me on its design. And thanks to all of you who participated in the January discussion on the topic. It was hugely helpful.

Checking In

Thank you very much for all your get well wishes. I returned home from the hospital on Saturday and am making progress. On Saturday, my 'Fine Living' thoughts were something edible such as canned soup or even a hot dog and a room that didn't smell of urine. On a positive note, thank goodness for modern medicine and the great souls who choose this field, they are truly a special breed. I am looking forward to checking out the 'Steps' in the next couple of days. xoxox

Montreal Skyline

Here is my latest effort using the approach taught by Liz Barton in the on-line course. First, the original photo, taken from the Musée des Beaux-Arts, from which a tiny detail was taken, middle-right of the photo...
...then translated into a line drawing and then a value study...
... and then realized in hand-dyed and commercial cottons, using fused shapes, outline and detail stitching. Perhaps the detail stitching on the golden dome-like shape could be darker to give it more emphasis?

I thought by making the focal point the lightest value, it would draw the eye. I was also trying to create something of an effect of light, reflecting off the upper surfaces but leaving the lower buildings relatively dark. Essentially a blue-and-orange colour scheme. It will be mounted on a dark-grey painted canvas like the others.

I am glad to have another piece (16" x 20") for the upcoming spring show of the Hudson artists.

Abandoned Soviet Sculpture

http://www.cracktwo.com/2011/04/25-abandoned-soviet-monuments-that-look.html These are the most amazing sculptures and buildings that are now abandoned and scattered throughout the Balkans. Quite huge in scale and some quite organic!
