Flower Threads

Having been away for 7 weeks in the period since the last reveal, I was rather taken by surprise when I realised that the work was due at the end of November.  My body is still telling me it is only the beginning of autumn.  My immediate thought when I heard the title 'Threads' was to wonder how I could show off some of the many threads in my cupboards.  Flowers on a black background seemed an obvious choice (I apologise if it's too obvious).  I wanted to continue practising my free machine skills, so the only marking I allowed myself was some chalk lines in a grid.  Then I just played!  As I worked I found I used brighter and brighter threads, maybe my brain was following it's own thread of action.  I'm still wondering if I should quilt the background in black, but on the whole I like it just as it is.

  3. Quite dainty and almost Elizabethan. Lots of work and beautifully executed. It really looks as if you had fun and just let yourself go. No, not too obvious to me! Makes me want to try something free and less controlled than I usually do.

  4. Lovely palette of colours. This focus on the threadwork without a pieced base is a different approach for you, no? More like embroidery than quilting. Do you think you will pursue this technique? And no, I don't think it needs quilting in the background.

  5. Yes, reminders of Elizabethan styling, yes definitely fun and no, not at all obvious - but what a great way to celebrate your thread collection. I can't believe that this wasn't totally planned out!!!!

  6. Wow, you are really great at the free motion quilting! What a beautiful celebration of thread. I think many of us have a vast collection of thread that we wonder how to use.

  8. I like the way the flowers seem to dance on the dark background. They are nicely done, and I like your colour palette.
